What will I learn?
During Foundation Training, handlers learn how to create calm structure at home through reliable crate comfort, predictable sleep and potty schedules, and a clear supervision plan that prevents overwhelm. You will build a communication system using marker words and precise reward timing, then layer in the essentials of sit, down, stay, and recall so your dog responds with confidence. You will also learn cooperative handling techniques that prepare your dog for vet visits, grooming, and everyday care, creating a smooth foundation for all future training.
Curriculum
Chapter 1: Puppy Foundations
Focus: crate, house routine, name response, confidence games
Goal: 7 days of consistent crate entries and 2 accident-free weeks
Chapter 2: Core Obedience
Focus: sit, down, stay, recall, release cue, focus markers
Goal: single-cue responses in a quiet room and low latency recall on a long line
Chapter 3: Socialization & Environment Work
Focus: sound shaping, surfaces, novel objects, calm observation
Goal: relaxed body language near new stimuli and recovery within seconds
Chapter 4: Handling & Grooming Comfort
Focus: consent touch, brush, nail tool, harness, cooperative care
Goal: accepts basic tools and holds a brief calm stay during handling
Chapter 5: Building Independence
Focus: short separations, mat settle, quiet self-soothing
Goal: 5 to 10 minute mat settle with mild distractions
